Direk Cathy elated over award

TELEVISION and film director Cathy Garcia-Molina was ecstatic when she received her first recognition as director for movies acknowledged by the Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC).

"I am trembling," Direk Cathy said when she accepted the Movie Director of the Year award during the 24th Star Awards for Movies held last Friday.

"I did not expect this.. When I was still in film school, I told myself when I win my first award as a director I will not forget all the people who helped me," she said.

Thus, in her speech, she thanked the people and her mentors who helped and guided her directing skills.

"First of all, I want to thank the Lord for the talent, the talent that you lend me. My co-directors, teachers, Direk Marilou (Diaz-Abaya) - thank you so much for the knowledge that you impart to me."

She also extended her gratitude to her "mentor" Direk Chito Roņo, movie outfits Viva Films and Star Cinema, her staff and the actors and actresses she worked with particularly John Lloyd Cruz, Bea Alonzo and Maja Salvador (major cast of "One More Chance").

Direk Cathy was given recognition in directing Star Cinema's movie "One More Chance" which won four awards including Movie of the Year, Movie Cinematographer, Movie Editor, and Movie Director.

She became known for her box-office hit movies "You Are the One," "You Got Me," and "Close To You".

She was known on television for her top rated series in ABS-CBN 2's "Lobo" starring Angel Locsin and Piolo Pascual.

She is working on an upcoming movie, still with Star Cinema, entitled "A Very Special Love" featuring the first movie team-up of John Lloyd and Sarah Geronimo. (JRDB/Sunnex)
