RUDY Fernandez may have left but his legacy continues in the hearts of many Filipinos.

Rudy's sister Merle said as she accepted the award on Rudy's behalf.

Rudy was a recipient of the 2008 Ulirang Artista Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) during the 24th Star Awards for Movies last June 27.

"On behalf of my brother Rudy Fernandez, I would like to thank PMPC Star Awards for Movies for this recognition that you bestowed on him as 'Ulirang Artista'. In 38 years Rudy was a part of the movie world - a world that he loved, a world that became a core of his being," Merle said.

She said Daboy, as his friends and supporters fondly called him, valued every award and recognition he received. "The smallest memento, even just a photograph commemorating a special event, was treasured and cherished," she said.

Last June 7, Rudy succumbed to periampullary cancer. He was 56.

"When Rudy went away, his family and friends wept. The movie world that he loved wept. His fans that supported him through the 38 years wept," Merle said.

She shared that the industry will never forget "Rudy's charming face, languid eyes and the unforgettable smile that he shared to everyone."

"Though his life journey was short, it was a life that was blessed. It was a life that was meaningful. It was a life that was filled with fulfillment," Merle said.

Merle thanked all the people who loved and supported her brother while he was part of the movie industry. "Thank you very much for this award and I know wherever Rudy is today, he is smiling."

Merle said: "Rudy left a legacy of kindness, of humility and of compassion and most of all a legacy of love" that Rudy's family "hopes to continue to go on and live on."

"To all who continue loving Rudy, please keep Rudy in your heart. Please don't forget him," she ended. (JRBD/Sunnex)
