Palace condemns media killing in Quezon

PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo ordered a thorough investigation into the killing of broadcast journalist Bert Sison in Sariaya in Quezon Province Monday night as Press Secretary Jesus Dureza "condemned in the strongest language" the incident.

"An investigation is being ordered to get at the perpetrators," Dureza said adding that the President also sent her sympathies to the families of the victim.

"We condemn in the strongest language the killing of Sison in Quezon. He was allegedly shot with his daughters. We express our sympathies to the family, and it goes without saying an investigation is being ordered to get at the perpetrators," he added.

Motorcycle-riding gunmen shot dead Sison, a broadcaster of radio station DZAT and correspondent of the weekly "Regional Bulletin.

They also wounded his daughter Liwayway Andaya.

Sison's other daughter, 24-year-old Amirah Sison, escaped unscathed by pretending to be dead. (JMR/Sunnex)
