Monday, July 07, 2008 Court junks GMA-7's case vs ex-employee
A QUEZON City Regional Trial Court (RTC) junked the breach of contract suit by GMA Network Inc. against Luchi Cruz-Valdes, ABS-CBN Head of News Production and Current Affairs, a press statement said.
The court also dismissed the Tortious Interference complaint by GMA Network Inc. against ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation.
The case stemmed from Valdes' resignation from GMA as News Production Manager in 2001 to transfer to ABS-CBN as its Vice President for News.
GMA sued Valdes and ABS-CBN for violating its Talent Contract with Valdes. The Kapuso network even obtained injunction vs Valdes, preventing her from working in ABS-CBN for about eight months.
In her decision, Judge Marilyn Villordon said Valdes' resignation from GMA was in accordance with law and that GMA clearly accepted it. Villordon likewise ruled that ABS-CBN did not induce Valdes to violate her contract with GMA.
The court has ordered GMA to pay Valdes damages equivalent to the salary she should have earned when she was prevented from working at ABS-CBN. (JRDB/Sunnex)
