NDCC ready to show financial records

DEPUTY Presidential spokesman Anthony Golez said the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) is prepared to bare its financial records, stressing that they have been transparent in their spending and relief operations.

Golez said for this year, the NDCC only has P2 billion of budget allocated as calamity fund, P25 million of which already being spent for the relief efforts.

"We are transparent with our spending, that's why we have a report daily. For the relief efforts we only used P25 million. For a full accounting of the P25 million, part of it are the 15,000 sacks of rice. Everyday there is a report. Our papers can stand scrutiny," he said.

He added that other agencies including the local government units (LGUs) spend their own funds for their part of the relief operations.

Golez said he is not sure where the alleged P15 billion spent on calamity fund the opposition Senator Aquilino Pimentel Jr. mentioned, came from.

He said what he knows is that annual damages wrought by typhoons average P15 billion a year, but damage due to typhoon Frank had already reached close to P12 billion. (JMR/Sunnex)
