Couple celebrates 3rd wedding anniv

A DAY after the PBA fuss, James surprised Kris on their third wedding anniversary.

The sweet-cager set a romantic dinner date with his wife at Gazebo in Edsa Shangri-la.

Aquino said, "With candles, curtains waving, violins and a guitar and all my favorite songs."

The musicians played all of Aquino's favorite songs.

Unfortunately, on the fifth song the heavy rain fell, pre-empting their dinner date, the couple said.

"The violinists were soaking wet," Aquino said.

Yap said he wanted to stay and "let the rain fall on us" but thought they might get sick.

Yap said he was happy to see his wife happy.

"I was touched because I thought he invited my family for a dinner at Summer Palace. But he didn't want to bring the kids (Josh and Baby James). I was surprised that it was only the two of us."

Yap said his wife wanted to celebrate their anniversary simply.
He insisted though to spend it at Shangri-la.

The two earlier said they are undergoing marriage counseling.

Aquino said the counseling helps them in strengthening their relationship and in getting to know each other deeply.

"Some people think that if a couple disclosed they are in counseling they admitted that they have problems but this counseling helps us a lot," she said.

Yap said, "What is good about our counseling is that we determine our weaknesses and the adjustments that we have to make."

He said now his wife knows he does not want her to make decisions without consulting him.

Aquino also said she has now learned to respect her husband when it comes to decisions.

Yap said, "I thank you for your courage to defend me. I appreciate the things I've learned during the past three years of our relationship. And I hope our relationship would get stronger. I love you so much and I will love you forever."

Aquino in response said, "I appreciate so much your temper during the moments that I become a brat. You can now laugh at me. And I appreciate that you become more appreciative of me. I am happy because we have a commitment to love each other. Let's make our family stronger."

She added, "If outside our house I can act that I am famous, in our house we should be equal," she said.

On August 2, the couple will have a 16-day vacation in the US as a gift to each other in celebration of their third anniversary.

The couple will watch different concert plays in New York. They will also go to Las Vegas, Nevada to watch "Love" and "La Reve".

They are expected to return to the country in time for the 25th death anniversary of Kris's father, former senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, on August 21. (JRDB/Sunnex)
