Thursday, July 24, 2008 Wife of police major in Cavite kidnap-slay case nabbed
A PASAY City court on Wednesday ordered the arrest of Police Chief Inspector Penelope Cautiver, wife of detained kidnap-murder suspect Chief Inspector Exequiel Cautiver.
Penelope was arrested by her superior officers from the Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (PHAU) of the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management (DPRM) based in Camp Crame, Quezon City where she is assigned.
Judge Pedro de Leon Gutierrez of Pasay Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 119 issued a warrant of arrest for the lady police officer for her alleged participation in a complex case of Kidnapping for Ransom with Double Murder.
Penelope was among the persons indicted by the Department of Justice (DOJ) in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Demosthenes Cañete and Allan Garay.
Her indictment in the case was upon the prosecution's appreciation of the evidence presented which include the sworn statement of another respondent Police Officer 1 Ric Selga who admitted having knowledge of the plan to kidnap and liquidate Cañete.
The crime was allegedly masterminded by former Dasmariñas vice mayor Victor Carungcong.
Also respondent in the case are Mariano "Spider" de Leon and PO1 Reniel Abogado.
"This statement (Selga's) along with that of Exequiel Cautiver are consistent in all material aspects and are also replete with the well-planned conspiracy to kidnap and liquidate the victim," excerpts of the DOJ resolution approved by Chief State Prosecutor Jovencito Zuño said.
The DOJ resolution dated July 18, 2008 was prepared by State Prosecutors Misael Ladag and Nolibien Quiambao.
The department recommended no bail for all suspects.
Mr. Cautiver has been under detention since July 4 along with Carungcong, Alejandrito Entolizo Jr., and Gary Pateo.
Selga is also detained, while de Leon and Abogado remain at-large. (VR/Sunnex)
