Friday, July 25, 2008 Sun Cellular aims for better services
SUN Cellular, the cellular arm of Gokongwei-owned Digitel Philippines, Incorporated, is focusing more on providing better services to their subscribers.
This after, James Go, chairman of JG Summit Holdings, Inc., the mother company of Sun Cellular, expressed confidence that they will surpass their 10 million target users this year.
"We are about to exceed the 10 million target," Go said.
He said their total subscribers already reached 6.5 million as of June, and about half a million or 500,000 monthly users were being added to their subscribers.
"All I know is we are increasing. I cannot say who is losing (but) I can say we're increasing," Go told the media during the yearly Breakfast Forum for CEOs (chief executive officers) hosted by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) Thursday morning.
Go attributed the increase in their subscribers to the value added services they are implementing as well as the affordability and good pricing they are offering to their average subscribers.
He further said that with the good turnout this year, "next year I'll calibrate higher."
Sun Cellular's market share (for mobile), according to Go, is close to 10 percent. Sun Cellular carved a niche in the high-competitive telecom industry due to its unlimited text and call promos.
Sun Cellular allocated P12 billion budget this year for its expansion and upgrade of its network from the 2,300 in December 2007 to 4,000 cell sites by end of this year.
Aside from the mobile subscribers take off, Go said they are also eyeing growth in the wireless broadband side and on the 3G projects.
For their wireless broadband business, Go said they are set to launch next week the wireless broadband project which has a total capacity of one million.
On the other hand, Go said for their 3G, they expect to have the same coverage capacity with their competitors, Smart Communications and Globe Telecoms.
"Our (3G) rollout is extremely strong, it's very fast rollout and by next year we will have about the same coverage capacity as our two friends nationwide," he added.
"At this point, we are not after a lot of subscribers we just want to make sure that they have a very good experience, make the system work more beautifully before we have a major launch," said Go. (MSN/Sunnex)
