Sunday, July 27, 2008 Palace welcomes Villar's offer of Senate 'cooperation'
MALACAÑANG on Saturday welcomed an alleged offer by Senate President Manuel Villar Jr. for cooperation at this time of crisis, saying the country needs "shared responsibility."
Deputy presidential spokesman Anthony Golez Jr. said the government has been advocating such shared responsibility in the wake of rising world prices of food and oil.
"At this time of crisis experienced not only here but around the world, what we need is shared responsibility not only within government or the private sector but all sectors of society," he said.
Golez, however, quickly clarified that the government is not trying to muzzle the Senate from conducting its investigations into alleged irregularities.
He said the Senate is free to do what it believes is within its mandate.
"All the things they are doing are within their mandate. They have the liberty to do what they want to do but in this time, what we need is cooperation," he said. (JMR/Sunnex)
