THE comical superhero character of Ai-Ai delas Alas in ABS-CBN show "Volta" is close to reaping an International Emmy nomination this year.
Ai-Ai's defunct fantasy series "Volta" has been qualified as Regional Semi-finalist in the Best Comedy Show category of the prestigious 2008 International Emmy Awards.
"Volta" was originally produced as a movie and with its success, ABS-CBN 2 decided to bring the funny character of Ai-Ai in the small screen. It is the only show qualifies to the world-class television award-giving body.
"Volta" will be competing international television shows like: NEO-Office Chuckles NHK, Telecom Staff of Japan, The I.T. Crowd A Talkback Thames Prod for Channel 4 of United Kingdom, The Thick of It - Spinners & Losers and BBC of United Kingdom.
It will also compete with Boese Maedchen Biller & Vass TV Produktion of Germany, Geile Zeit Sony Pictures Film und Fernseh Produktions GmbH of Germany, and some other shows from Latin America.
The Comedy Queen excitedly said after hearing the good news, "We are the only show qualified from the Philippines. Go for it! I would like to thank God for this."
Last Year, another ABS-CBN program, late night news -- "Bandila" -- also made it to the International Emmy Awards. (JRDB/Sunnex)
