Saturday, August 09, 2008 3 agencies post highest score in energy audit
THREE government agencies posted the highest score in the energy conservation audit conducted by the Department of Energy (DOE) in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Audit results showed that the National Dairy Authority (NDA), National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (Namria), and Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza) posted the highest score of 98 percent, equivalent to a five-star rating, after the Energy Audit Team assessed the energy conservation programs being implemented by these agencies.
The NDA, Namria and Peza obtained the highest energy audit rating in the NCR after showing impressive electricity and fuel savings.
The Bases Conversion and Development Authority, Philippine International Convention Center, National Housing Authority, Department of Environment and Natural Resources and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas ranked fourth with 97 percent.
The audit team conducted a total of 149 energy spot checks of government agencies in Metro Manila in April 2008.
Besides the spot checks, the team requires all government agencies to submit documents on fuel and electricity consumption, compliance report to Administrative Order (AO) 183 which mandates all government offices to use energy-efficient lighting systems and energy conservation program.
Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes said energy audits are also being conducted in the regional offices.
To date, the team has inspected some government offices in Regions I (Ilocos Region), III (Central Luzon) and VI (Western Visayas). It has also completed its spot checks in Cebu City and Tacloban City. A total of 41 offices were visited.
It is now awaiting the submission of the required documents before preparing the evaluation reports.
The energy audit team is in Cagayan de Oro City and is scheduled to visit Davao City next. It is nearing its target of conducting 220 spot checks.
By September this year, the team is confident that it will complete the energy audit, Reyes said.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo earlier ordered all government agencies to reduce the cost of their fuel and power following the soaring prices of fuel in the international market. (MSN/Sunnex)
