Tuesday, August 12, 2008 DPWH begins working on C5 flyover to link NLEX, SLEX
THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is developing the comprehensive design of the P420-million flyover project in Quezon City, which is one of the vital links in the 41-kilometer North Luzon Expressway-South Luzon Expressway (NLEX-SLEX).
Engineer Reynaldo Rosario, assistant planning chief of the DPWH-National Capital Region (NCR), said they have started working on the proposed construction of the flyover along C5 (Circumferential Road 5) and Commonwealth Avenue connecting Tandang Sora Avenue with Luzon Avenue.
He said they would start the bidding process of the project once the Quezon City Government has cleared the road right of way (RROW).
The project is one of the segments of the NLEX-SLEX, which is one of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's State of the Nation Address (Sona)-Luzon Urban Beltway Projects.
Earlier, Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. agreed to shell out P18 million for the acquisition of the RROW from residents and establishments.
The project is composed of a 300-meter stretch flyover with 18-meter width covering a center island and sidewalks on both sides. It has two lanes for the northbound and southbound direction.
The project will give motorist alternative route from NLEX to SLEX or vice-versa by taking C5 aside from Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (Edsa). (FP/Sunnex)
