PNP ranks 6th among best performing agencies

FILIPINOS gave the Philippine National Police (PNP) a high mark in terms of public approval, and ranked the police organization sixth among the best performing government agencies.

In the July 1-14, 2008 Ulat ng Bayan survey of the prestigious Pulse Asia, 49 percent of 1,200 respondents expressed approval to the PNP's performance.

The Top 5 agencies with the highest approval ratings in the survey are the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Health (DOH), Social Security System (SSS), and University of the Philippines (UP).

"This goes to show how the people appreciate and recognize the performance of the PNP in providing law enforcement and public safety services to the communities," said PNP Chief Avelino Razon Jr.

During the first semester of 2008, overall index crime cases went down further by 2.63 percent, particularly in Crimes Against Persons, which went down by 5.12 percent in January to June this year.

Razon noted survey results that indicate 19 percent disapproval of the PNP and 33-percent undecided respondents.

"This can only mean that there is more room for improvement in the organization. Through better performance and quality of public service, we hope to sway and convince the undecided respondents and get their approval," Razon said. (VR/Sunnex)
