Wednesday, August 27, 2008 ABS-CBN Bacolod, Teletech unite for 'slippers' project
ABS-CBN Bacolod and Teletech Bacolod representatives took time to distribute slippers in response to the request of Janice Suansing, a Grade I teacher whose heart went out to the plight of her pupils coming barefoot to school since classes began in June.
"I thank God for answering my prayers for these children. I hope someday we can repay the kindness shown to us," said teacher Janice.
"This is inspired by 'Rated K's' outreach where host Korina (Sanchez) goes to poor communities and gives out slippers. We at Teletech have found ways to raise money for our outreach such as agents given the option to dress-down in exchange for P10 allocated for flip-flops for the children," said Nicki Agcaoili, executive director of Teletech Bacolod.
Site director Kit Bulfa echoed the sentiment, saying this is the third time they have gone on their slippers adventure project. The first two were in Mt. Canlandog and Barangay Tambara, Talisay.
"We are planning to visit one of the barangays in Don Salvador Benedicto for the fourth one," Kit added.
Barangay chairman Jose Gensoli gratefully welcomed the group from Teletech and ABS-CBN as he gave way to the charitable activity in the middle of his council meeting and NFA (National Food Authority) rice distribution.
The pupils of teacher Janice wasted no time in wearing their new slippers. Among the 300 recipients was Evelyn Abayon, who did not fail to say "Thank You" written in a card she held in one hand while clutching a bunch of fresh flowers, which she gave to her benefactor.
Teletech-Bacolod is also a major sponsor of ABS-CBN's province-wide Quiz High 2008 on Saturday, in their joint bid to raise the standards of education in the province. (JRDB/Sunnex)
