RP welcomes IMT extension
EXECUTIVE Secretary Eduardo Ermita said the extension of the International Monitoring Team (IMT) for another three months should pressure both the government and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) to work double time in resolving the peace efforts.

"This is a welcome development for us. But this should also pressure the government and MILF, in fact all stakeholders, to work double time,” Ermita said.
Malaysia announced the extension of the IMT for another three months following requests from the government and MILF, which met recently in Kuala Lumpur.
Malaysia, which has been brokering talks between the two sides since 2001, initially reduced its ceasefire monitoring team in May this year, citing the lack of progress in the peace talks.
It has 12 men in the IMT at present, down from 41; while Brunei has 10, Libya has two, and Japanese has one. (JMR/Sunnex) For more Philippine news, visit Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro. (August 30, 2008 issue) Write letter to the editor. Click here.
