Wednesday, September 03, 2008 Juday hopes 'Ploning' enters Oscars
ACTRESS Judy "Juday" Ann Santos's first-produced movie "Ploning" has been chosen to represent the country in 2009 Academy Awards, widely known as the Oscars.
Ploning, a film co-produced by Panoramanila Pictures Co., is one of the notable foreign films that have a chance to vie for Oscars' Best Foreign Language Film category.
The Film Academy of the Philippines' (FAP) special committee was the body that selected "Ploning" among other highly-praised films like "Caregiver," "Tribu," and "Endo."
Juday meanwhile is overwhelmed by the continuing success and opportunities of her film.
She is keeping her fingers crossed that Ploning would be qualified up to the final five nominees that will vie for the Oscars prestigious title.
"Let's all pray for 'Ploning' to be included among the Oscars' five finalists or even at the top 18 list just to make our country proud and also be recognized abroad," she said.
Ploning was a movie directed and written by Juday's best friend Dante Nico Garcia. It was a special gift of Dante to Juday on her 30th birthday.
The movie was entirely shot in Cuyo, Palawan and is based on a popular Cuyunon song about a girl's hidden feelings from a man's point of view.
It was given a grade of "A" by the Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB), when it was shown in local theaters, which entitled the film to a 100-percent tax rebate.
"Ploning" was also shown in theaters abroad having an English subtitle and had been chosen as one of the movies to be screened in the Paris Cinema International Film Festival last July 5. (JRDB/Sunnex)
