POPULAR and award-winning comedy star Lisa Kudrow portrays the role of Valerie Cherish in “The Comeback,” premieres on Monday at 9 p.m. on the Velvet Channel.
Lisa Kudrow stars in this television series she created with Michael Patrick King, a former executive producer of “Sex and the City.”
Both are also writers and executive producers of the said series.
The comedy show was shot using a single camera, giving it the feel and style of reality television which revolves around the life and big time goal of a former B-list sitcom star.
Valerie, (Lisa's character) was once TV's "It Girl" in modern-day Los Angeles, California.
She starred in a sitcom known as “I’m It!” from 1989 to 1992. The show was a hit during its initial run.
Since then, her fame and fortune gained from her success as an actress depleted. Things went downhill from then - she’s unemployed, married and does not have any roles.
Now it's a different story - and vows she'll do anything to get the spotlight back on her.
Desperate for a comeback, she agreed to star in a new reality TV series, allowing cameras to follow her every move as she lands a part in a new network’s sitcom.
The show-within-a-show follows Valerie through her home life and hopeful career resurgence.
Weaving in and out of Valerie's life are some of the most colorful and sometimes crazy personalities. Leading the way is her patient and understanding husband Mark (Damian Young).
Luckily there's Mickey (Robert Morris), Valerie's cheerful and jolly hairdresser who's more than happy to be on the boob-tube.
Capturing everything on camera is the hard-edged reality show producer Jane and adding more excitement is her housekeeper Esperanza who is ill at ease sharing their lives with the voyeuristic cameras.
Sharing the spotlight with Valerie are “the kids,” four scarcely-clad young singles, namely: Juna (Malin Akerman), Shayne (Kimberly Williams), Jesse (Jason Olive), and Chris (Kellan Lutz).
Most known to be Phoebe Buffay in the hit comedy series "Friends," Lisa Kudrow has been honored with various awards.
She has received a Screen Actors’ Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series, an American Comedy Award for Funniest Supporting Female Performer in a Television Series, and a Golden Globe Award nomination.
She has also won the Best Supporting Actress Award from the New York Film Critics and a Blockbuster Award, among other awards and honors.
Her film credits include starring roles in "Wonderland" with Val Kilmer, "Hanging Up” with Meg Ryan and Diane Keaton, "Lucky Numbers" with John Travolta, and in the critically-acclaimed hit comedy "Romy & Michele's High School Reunion" with Mira Sorvino.
Totally scripted, "The Comeback" explores the madness of television, a Beverly Hills lifestyle, the dual roles of wife and step-mom, the trouble with growing older in Hollywood, and the bravery of a comic-tragic 40-year-old woman who is slowly sinking under the pressure of it all. (Press release)
