Saturday, September 06, 2008 Napolcom endorses Versoza for PNP chief post
THE National Police Commission (Napolcom) on Friday formally endorsed Deputy Director General Jesus Versoza, deputy chief for administration of the Philippine National Police (PNP), to Malacañang to succeed outgoing PNP Chief Avelino Razon Jr. who is going to retire this month.
The resolution, signed by Napolcom chairman and Interior and Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno, Razon and Napolcom Commissioners Eduardo Escueta, Celia Sanidad-Leones, Luis Mario General and Miguel Coronel, said Versoza has all the qualifications needed for him to succeed Razon.
It likewise said that Versoza is the most senior police commissioned officer.
“After review of the PNP, finding no legal impediment to his designation as the chief of the PNP and his promotion to Police Director General, the Commission, concomitant to its constitutional mandate to administer and control the PNP, has resolved to recommend to Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo the designation of Police Deputy Director General Jesus Versoza as Chief PNP and his promotion to the highest rank of Police Director General,” the resolution said.
Reports said the President sees no problem with Versoza at the helm of the PNP.
Razon is set to retire on September 27 upon reaching the mandatory age of 56 years old for retirement.
The turnover ceremony will be held in Malacañang on September 29.
Versoza had been the chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) before he was named chief of the Directorate for Administration. He also served as chief of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 4.
He is a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1976.
Earlier, also being floated as Razon’s successor is National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Chief Gerry Barias, a member of PMA Class of 1975.
Prior to his current post, Barias had been head of the Caraga Police Regional Office. He also held the PNP Headquarters Support Services post. (AH/Sunnex)
