Monday, September 08, 2008 Liezl's in-laws deny actress's "illness"
WHEN the news about the alleged breast cancer ailment of former actress Liezl Martinez broke out, the family of the actress opted to remain silent despite persistent queries from the press.
The rumors started as a blind item and until now remains a puzzle as no one from the Martinezeses, not even Albert (Liezl's husband) or Liezl's mother -- award-winning actress Amalia Fuentes -- has yet confirmed or denied the issue.
But last Saturday, Liezl's in-laws William Martinez and Yayo Aguila broke the family's silence and dismissed the rumors regarding the reported feeble condition of Liezl.
"She's okay. Actually people might have misinterpreted it," Yayo remarked.
She clarified that the one who is sick is William and Albert's mother.
"Mama has throat cancer and Liezl usually accompanies her, so people might frequently see her at the hospital," Yayo explained.
She claimed that Liezl's health condition "is very well" and appealed to people to stop speculating about Liezl, whom she said is not a showbiz person.
"She is okay. We text each other everyday. Liezl is not a showbiz person and she doesn't buy rumors. She usually stays at their house and she is not an outgoing person," Yayo said.
But then the couple said if ever the news were true, they are not in the position to confirm the issue in behalf of their family.
"Let just wait until Liezl and her family air their side about it. And it's not healthy if we say something about it. They are the people who have the right to prove it," William said.
The two also said they also feel upset when people keep asking them about Liezl's health. "Sometimes when people ask you about it time and again, I feel sad because she's part of our family, but she's okay."
Instead of asking about the true condition of Liezl, Yayo and William appealed to pray for Liezl if the reports are true and respect their family's choice to remain silent.
"If we know someone who is not feeling well, what we need to do is to pray for them and always hope for them to recover and it's better not to talk about it," the couple said. (JRDB/Sunnex)
