Monday, September 08, 2008 Lagman eyed for JBC position
PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo nominated retired Court of Appeals (CA) Justice Aurora Santiago-Lagman to the eight-member Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) after Sandiganbayan Justice Raoul Victorino's term expired.
Lagman's nomination was submitted to the Committee on Appointments. When confirmed, he will represent the private sector and serve a four-year term that would expire on July 9, 2012.
Lagman started her career in government as a lawyer in the Department of Justice (DOJ) Citizens Legal Assistance Office on August 1978.
She was then promoted as State Prosecutor II and later as Senior State Prosecutor.
She also became Presiding Judge of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) of Bulacan, Branch 77, on March 1994 until she was named Associate Justice of the CA on February 2004.
An alumna of the Lyceum of the Philippines College of Law, she obtained special courses at the University of Southern California, National Judicial College, University of Nevada, and the Harvard Law School.
She co-authored the book "The Child in the Criminal Justice System and Other Child-Related Laws," that was published by Fairchild and the University of the Philippines Law Center. (JMR/Sunnex)
