Thursday, September 18, 2008 Oprah to handle Charice's US career
INTERNATIONALLY-acclaimed TV host Oprah Winfrey has agreed to manage the singing career of Filipino sensation Charice Pempengco in the US.
According to Nixon Sy, head of the Star Records, Oprah will manage the career of the 16-year-old singer while she is in the US. Charice though will remain under her local management in the Philippines, he added.
The TV-host-mogul also vowed to allot a one full-show for Charice to be further recognized worldwide, said Sy.
Charice had performed in The Oprah Winfrey Show twice. Her recent visit in the show was last week where she appeared in the episode dubbed "Dream Comes True." Half of the show was allotted to Charice's personal life.
She sang her own rendition of Celine Dion's (Charice's idol) classic hit "My Heart Will Go On." As Oprah's surprise, Charice was introduced to Celine via a video conference.
Celine expressed how she was touched and moved by Charice's story and later invited the young singing sensation to belt out a song number with her on her upcoming concert at the Madison Square Garden in New York.
The young lady who was so shocked and flattered could barely speak a word simply saying "Thank You."
Charice gained international popularity when some of her show performances were posted in YouTube, a popular video sharing site.
She was first invited by another famous American TV host Ellen de Generes to guest in her show last 2007. She earned a standing ovation with her rendition of Whitney Houston's “I Will Always Love You.”
From then on, Charice became an instant celebrity and one of the most sought after artist here and abroad.
She was invited to guest in several international TV shows like London's The Paul O'Grady Show and her first appearance in The Oprah Winfrey Show in their World's Smartest Kids episode.
She became one of the favorite singing icons, to perform alongside some world famous singers like Andrea Bocelli.
Charice also won the attention of big-time producer David Foster and was asked to perform in the tribute concert of David at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. (JRDB/Sunnex)
