Tuesday, September 30, 2008 Sayyaf bandit, wife snatched
AN ABU Sayyaf terrorist, with a US$25,000 reward on his head, and his wife were abducted by still unidentified men clad in military uniform in Pangutaran, Sulu.
A police report reaching Camp Crame identified the Sayyaf bandit as Usman Salapuddin. The report, however, did not name Salapuddin's wife.
At least 10 armed men barged into the residence of Salapuddin in Barangay Pandukan, Pangutaran at 5:30 a.m. last Friday and took the couple.
The perpetrators boarded a blue "jungkong" type of sea craft.
The victims were taken at gunpoint by (the) Tausog speaking armed men who forcibly pushed the victims to board the said sea craft, then fled towards unknown direction, according to the report.
"Usman Salappudin, who has involvement in murder, extortion, abduction and kidnapping activities in Sulu, is listed among the most wanted persons with a monetary reward of US$25,000 from the Anti-Terrorism Task Force and the US Embassy," it added.
The Abu Sayyaf Group is behind a number of high-profile kidnappings and bombings in the country.
The US State Department has included the bandit group in its list of foreign terrorist organizations, along with the New People's Army (NPA). (VR/Sunnex)
