Bb. Pilipinas-World Janina San Miguel resigns

BEAUTY Queen Janina San Miguel has backed out as the Philippine's representative to the 2008 Miss World beauty pageant that will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa on December 13.

A statement released by the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) said San Miguel decided to quit from the competition due to her grandfather's death.

"The untimely demise of her grandfather, among other personal reasons, has caused her undue stress, thus hindering her from fulfilling her duties for the said title," the BCPI statement read.

It added: "BCPI wishes to express its gratitude to Ms. San Miguel for this act of graciousness and concern for the country. They also wish her well in her future endeavors."

In compliance with the BCPI rules and regulations, Bb. Pilipinas 2008 first runner-up Danielle Castaño will replace San Miguel in her post and will be the country's representative to this year's Miss World.

San Miguel made a notable stint in the recent Bb. Pilipinas beauty pageant, when she stuttered and fumbled in the question-and-answer portion.

Miss World 2008 originally should take place in Kiev, Ukraine this October. However, the Miss World Organization decided to move the pageant away from the Eastern European nation which is undergoing crisis today.

The reigning Miss World is Zhang Zilin from the People's Republic of China. (JRDB/Sunnex)
