THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Monday confiscated P10.92 million worth of branded laptops at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) misdeclared as laptop bags.
The shipment, which was consigned to Hanjo Corporation, was declared as 491 kilograms of cargo containing 96 pieces of Lenovo 2008 off-white laptop bags.
However, during an inspection, it was found containing 192 pieces of bags; with a Lenovo computer notebook in each bag.
The laptops, Lenovo 2005 Ideapad Y430, would cost US$1,200 each (around P57,000).
The shipment did not have import permits issued by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).
“I have ordered for the seizure proceedings and inventory to be finalized immediately so that we may auction these off before they devaluate and convert this to revenues,” said Customs Commissioner Napoleon Morales.
Morales also ordered the immediate filing of cases against the importer. (FP/Sunnex)
