Monday, October 13, 2008 LPG refilling station robbed
AT LEAST 15 armed men took about P680,000 in cash and valuables of a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) refilling station in Pasay City Saturday midnight, police said.
Pasay city police chief Marietto Valerio said the suspects robbed the Island Gas refilling station located at 2933 Apelo Cruz Street including three taxi drivers who were having their LPG tanks refilled.
The three cab drivers were identified as Elias Olores, 31; Alejandro Tude, 42; and Joel Cartagena, 29.
Valerio said some of the robbers were armed with high-powered firearms like M-16 rifles and wore mask to hide their identities,
Initial investigation showed that the robbers arrived onboard a green Mitsubishi Adventure and a gray Toyota Revo.
Once the robbers' vehicles entered the compound, they disarmed the two security guards -- Michael Rivera and a certain Raz -- and declared a robbery.
Police said the suspects used a sledgehammer to open the vault. Aside from the cash, they also took cell phones and earnings of the three taxi drivers.
The robbers made off with Olores's earnings of P280, Tude's P120, and Cartagena's P3,600.
In a bid to make sure they were not followed, the men took the keys of the three taxicabs.
Valerio said they are coordinating with neighboring police stations to check if the suspects had been linked to recent robberies in southern Metro Manila. (AH/Sunnex)
