2 officials in Moscow mess return travel funds to PNP

HEEDING the orders of Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Jesus Verzosa, seven active-duty police officials have expressed willingness to return the P274,070 that each of them received for a recent official mission to Russia.

"Should any one of them feel they are entitled to reimbursement of expenses, they may file the corresponding claims following the normal accounting and auditing procedures," Verzosa said.

On Monday, the PNP chief ordered the seven active-duty officials who composed the eight-man official PNP delegation to the Interpol convention to return the entire amount received from the PNP Finance Service used in the travel.

Verzosa likewise encouraged retired police director Eliseo dela Paz to do the same "considering that the procedure involved in the release of this amount is questionable."

According to PNP spokesman Nicanor Bartolome, two members of the PNP delegation to the 77th Interpol general assembly in St. Petersburg, Russia returned the amount on Thursday.

"Police Director Silverio Alarcio Jr., Director for Operations, returned the full amount of P274,070, while Police Director German Doria, Director for Human Resource and Doctrine Development (DHRDD), returned the partial amount of P100,000 with a promissory note to return the balance within 30 days," he said.

The amount returned were properly acknowledged by the special disbursing officer of the PNP Finance Service, Superintendent Samuel Rodriguez, he said.

Dela Paz will return the entire P274,070 travel funds he received, while Deputy Director General Emmanuel Carta and the rest of the officials are expected to return the funds on Monday, November 3.

The PNP spokesman said the concerned police officials have started submitting the necessary documents and instruments to satisfy the requirements of internal audit and accounting procedures on disbursement of expenses used in official travel. (VR/Sunnex)
