Commemoration of All Saints' Day orderly: PNP

PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) chief Jesus Verzosa on Sunday commended police units throughout the country for the orderly observance of All Saints' Day.

Verzosa also lauded local government units (LGUs), civic groups, non-government organizations (NGOs) and other government agencies for their vigilance, and for the well-organized public safety and security operations.

"The well-executed All Saints' Day security plan should serve as our dry run for a similar and much bigger security plan for the Yuletide season," he said.

In Camp Crame, the National Operations Center was abuzz with activity to monitor situations on the ground and coordinate movements of PNP units.

No major untoward incident was reported nationwide except for a freak accident involving a bus and a van along North Luzon Expressway in Mabalacat, Pampanga that killed six persons and injured several others.

Perennial police concerns were reported in some localities such as missing children, traffic congestion, crowding in cemeteries, and illegal parking.

Police confiscated alcoholic drinks and prohibited substances, gambling paraphernalia, and deadly weapons in public cemeteries.

PNP spokesman Nicanor Bartolome said PNP units will remain on their posts especially along travel routes and transport terminals to provide security to motorists and commuters who are expected to return to the city Sunday and early Monday.

"The heightened alert condition remains in effect in all police regional offices to ensure the availability of personnel and resources for swift response to incidents," Bartolome said.

The National Capital Region Police Office and all PNP units in Mindanao are also on full- alert status. (VR/Sunnex)
