Friday, November 07, 2008 Paolo commends Ryan's hosting By Jill Beltran
SURVIVOR Philippines (SP) host Paolo Bediones welcomed the introduction of Pinoy Fear Factor (PFF) in the ABS-CBN Primetime block this coming Monday.
Paolo said comparison of the two shows is inevitable because they both focus on physical and mental challenges. Ratings might be shaken and viewers may also be divided yet SP's front man still believes in healthy competition.
"Like what I always say, my focus is on my show. I've always been that way. I never focus on what the other side might come out with or whatever. Never. I believe in healthy competition," he said.
"More than anything I believe in being the innovator, in trail-blazing rather than reacting. That's my philosophy," he added.
Aside from the show, Paolo also has high regards for PFF host Ryan Agoncillo, who is one of his friends in showbiz.
"I am really glad that they got Ryan. I'm proud of the guy; I have nothing but respect for the man. When I found out nga na magkakaroon ng Fear Factor sabi ko that has to be Ryan no one else. No one else can do it," he said.
According to Paolo, there are only few people in showbiz who can be considered as efficient host and Ryan is one of them. "I wish more people like him get into showbiz. I am happy for his success and I believe in his talent in hosting."
Fan of his own show
If there is a no. 1 fan of SP, that would be Paolo himself.
He never missed any episode of the hit reality show and vowed not to miss one until the final tribal council on December 12.
"You know each week that goes by, even if I know what happened already, alam mo yung parang kang bata. I really watch it every night and if I can’t watch it I ask someone to record it," he said.
When asked who he wants to become First Pinoy Sole Survivor among the castaways, he said: "All 18 deserves to win for various reasons but in terms of consistency, top of my list is Nanay Zita (Ortiga); in terms of game play, Marlon (Carmen) the strategist that for some odd reason that I can't even explain."
Second season
"There's no reason why there's no second season," this is what Paolo said when asked if GMA 7 is planning another season of the reality show.
"They’ve got good ratings considering the late slot. You know advertisers are coming in so wala talagang reason na hindi sundan," he said.
Indeed, Paolo is right as Survivor Philippines is now the No. 1 primetime program among Mega Manila households with 33.9 percent based on AGB Nielsen’s survey last Wednesday.
For the second season, Paolo said there should definitely be different personalities joining the show. "People like Marlon, slightly of a villain role, are needed. You need people like that, keeping you on your toes. It shakes it up. The tribe finds him in a position of power that they can't vote him off."
