Thursday, November 13, 2008 GMA leads nationwide TV ratings
GMA Network narrowly edged its biggest rival in nationwide TV ratings at the beginning of the last quarter of 2008.
According to data from AGB Nielsen's National Urban TV Audience Measurement (Nutam) survey from October 12 to 18, GMA posted an average total day people rating of 8.4 percent against ABS-CBN's 8.3 percent.
In terms of average total day household rating, GMA still trailed ABS-CBN by a slim 0.3 percent as the Kapuso Network posted 16.6 percent against its rival's 16.9 percent for the period.
Based on people data, 15 GMA shows made it to the overall top 30 programs list nationwide, with the highly successful fantaserye “Dyesebel” taking the number one slot. The action series Codename: Asero was fourth, while new prime time program Lalola, which premiered last October 13, was seventh overall.
Primetime newscast 24 Oras tied with ABS' Goin' Bulilit for the 10th-11th places.
Meanwhile, GMA Network continues to dominate the TV ratings in Total Urban Luzon. Luzon comprises 76.3 percent of the total urban TV household population in the country. Luzon also got the biggest share of 66.1 percent of the country's total personal consumption expenditure based on the National Statistical Coordination Board data for 2007.
GMA posted an average total day-people rating of 9.3 percent against ABS-CBN's 7.0 percent in Urban Luzon for the period October 12 to 18. In addition, nineteen out of the top 30 programs were Kapuso shows with Dyesebel, Codename: Asero, Lalola, Bitoy's Funniest Home Videos and 24 Oras rounding up the top five slots.
In viewer-rich Metro Manila, 18 out of the top 30 programs were from GMA with Dyesebel, Lalola and Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho taking the top three slots.
Codename: Asero is fifth, Bitoy's Funniest Videos is seventh while reality hit Survivor Philippines shared the eighth and ninth spots with ABS' Dyosa. Public affairs program Imbestigador was 10th in the list.
In North/Central Luzon, 20 out of the top 30 programs were GMA's - Codename: Asero, Dyesebel, 24 Oras, Tok! Tok! Tok! Isang Milyon Pasok, Lalola, Kap's Amazing Stories, and Bitoy's Funniest Videos occupied the top seven slots.
In Urban South Luzon, 17 out of the top 30 programs were from GMA, with Dyesebel, Codename: Asero, and Lalola occupying the top three spots.
GMA's ratings in Urban Visayas and Urban Mindanao experienced increments as well. (Press release)
