Thursday, November 13, 2008 Admin refuses to name 2010 presidential bet
EXECUTIVE Secretary Eduardo Ermita dismissed anew the need for the administration to name its possible standard bearer in the 2010 presidential elections or to at least come up with their list of possible candidates.
Malacañang stressed that its focus at the moment is on governance, which is more important.
Ermita said they respect the opinion of some sectors including their allies, adding that the administration may run out of time if they continue to set side the identifying of their candidates for 2010.
But they, particularly President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, feel that 2010 is still two years away and that there is still enough time, he added.
"It's still early to be coming out with such positions as to who might be chosen as the administration candidate for an election that is still two years from now. If that's the case then we won't be doing anything but talk about it," he said.
According to Ermita, the administration wants to concentrate on governance and better prepare the country to face up the economic problems especially the threat of a possible recession in 2009. (JMR/Sunnex)
