Gerald shifts to prim cadet role in 'Tayong Dalawa'

FROM an "emo" rugged look in mini-series "My Only Hope," young actor Gerald Anderson assumes a rigid and shipshape PMA cadet character in ABS-CBN forthcoming action-drama series "Tayong Dalawa".

Gerald said "Tayong Dalawa" is his dream project as he has always wanted to do an action series since he started in showbiz.

"This is my dream role," he enthused. "This is my first time to do an action series and I am really enjoying it. My father and my grandfather are soldiers so I was accustomed to that way of life."

As he gives life to a PMA cadet, Gerald together with co-star Jake Cuenca (who also portrays a cadet role) shot some scenes in Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in Baguio City.

"They are very strict in the PMA. You should be very discipline. Our uniforms should always be properly worn. We are not allowed to sit and to eat because we should not screw up our uniforms," Gerald said about his experiences as a military student.

"We observe how they walk, their stance, their movement, everything. It is even harder for me and Jake because we don't have CAT experience," he said.

Gerald gets some tips from Jake once in while, as the latter already did action scenes when he portrayed "Palos."

"I got many action tips from him. We do our own boxing scenes, we don't have boxing instructor which I liked because it challenged us," he added.

This is also the first time Gerald will be experiencing living in a slum area as he portrays a less fortunate role of David Garcia.

Gerald tests his versatility as he shifts from a hotel president in defunct series "My Girl" into a "basagulero" teenager in this series.

"I am not well-off here. I am raised in a squatter area. It's hard because I have to adapt to their way of living. I observe their mannerisms," he said.

He meanwhile added that doing this role is a big challenge for him.

"I take this as a new challenge for me so I am so excited. Whatever I can do to make this series successful I will do it," he said.

On his new look in the series, Gerald said he likes it however preferring his rugged look in My Only Hope. "Less effort. I don't even wear make up at that time because my look was supposed to be really messy. Here I have to shave always and observe my haircut."

He meanwhile revealed that Kim likes him more when tidy. "He likes me better in this style. Maganda daw tingnan sa mata."

Asked if he has kissing scenes with Kim in the series, "I have but it's too early at this time."

He revealed that Jake and Kim already had a kissing scene. Did he feel jealous? "I was there when they did the scene. For me it's just part of our job so I shouldn't be jealous about it." (JRDB/Sunnex)
