Tuesday, December 23, 2008 Meralco ready for New Year's eve
POWER retailer Manila Elecric Company (Meralco) has put in place its contingency measures to ensure that no untoward incident will occur as the country celebrates the holiday season especially the coming 2009.
Elpi Cuna, Meralco vice president for corporate communication, said that all its emergency crews will be on alert most especially on New Year's eve to ensure that Meralco will be able to respond to any incident.
He added that this early, they already have contingency measures in place in case their facilities get affected by pyrotechnics and firecracker explosions as a result of the New Year's revelry.
"We advise the general public not to play with firecrackers and pyrotechnics near our facilities, most especially electric lines and transformers because these may cause power interruptions," Cuna warned.
Although Meralco regularly upgrades and maintains its facilities to ensure that they are in tip-top condition, Cuna said overhead lines are still vulnerable to firecracker explosions and pyrotechnics.
In case of emergencies, he reminded Meralco customers to call up Meralco's 24-hour call center at 16211. "Our call center is ready to respond to customers' needs at any given time. Its service is available 24/7," Cuna said. (MSN/Sunnex)
