Rosales to Pinoys: Spend wisely for Christmas

MANILA Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales cautioned Filipinos not to overspend in buying gifts and food for the Christmas season.

"We urge the people not only to buy local products but to also estimate what they really need. Let us not overspend," Rosales said.

The prelate added that he had approved the giving of gifts this Christmas, but reminded the people that it does not need to be too expensive.

"Let us learn to budget our resources," he said.

Likewise, Rosales also said that the people should not serve too many foods during the traditional "Noche Buena."

"If before you have 10 dishes there, now let's limit it to two to three dishes only. I think the virtue of prudence and simplicity should be there in our observance of Christmas," he said.

According to him, spending a little during the holidays would save them money for their future.

"There is also some room for people to help those in need. Will that be in the form of local materials? Will that be in favor of local food or fruits? Whatever it will all be left in the creativity and initiative of the person," he said. (FP/Sunnex)
