Thursday, December 25, 2008 Gary V sings 'Tayong Dalawa' theme song
MR. PURE Energy Gary Valenciano has recorded his own rendition of Rey Valera's classic "Tayong Dalawa" for an ABS-CBN's upcoming television series, which carries the same title.
Gary has been known to sing several Original Soundtrack (OST) for movies and teleseryes, thus doing this 18th theme song recording has hailed him as the "King of OST."
Despite his hectic schedule, Gary granted an interview with Sun.Star during the shooting of "Tayong Dalawa" music video at La Mesa Eco Park.
How does it feel singing a Rey Valera masterpiece?
"It's two with one stone actually. To do any song of Rey Valera is a great honor because Rey Valera is a man who had written songs that never die. I think even the kid of my kids will get to hear his music and say 'wow who wrote this?' and I'll be proud to say 'Rey Valera' I am very honored to sing one of his songs."
Why does he think he is always chosen to sing soundtracks for teleseryes?
"When I record, I don't record to try and just sound good and I don't think any artist does that, but really it's a way of expressing myself. When you come across the songs by Rey Valera, you can't help but really express yourself the way it was arranged plus the fact that it's part of a teleserye with a unique story. It has beautiful storyline and because I knew more or less what the story was before the recording it helped me. So when I entered, I knew exactly what I was going to be singing; and it helps when you know why you're doing it, what it is for and what it stands for."
Do you think theme song is an effective tool of promoting a teleserye?
"A theme song is not just supposed to sound good but it has to play a major role in complementing the effectivity of the teleserye. Theme song implies exactly what the story is trying to say that when you put that together and when one equals the other I think you come up with a great equation and I think that equation spells success with regard to this series."
In singing music videos, singers tend to be actors, as a singer and has background in acting, how does he feel about it?
"I really feel the song when I'm doing this of course I'm realizing the scenes. What we are doing here has something to do with the scenes of the teleserye, but I am not here to act out what the main actors are acting now. Mine is just to express the song so that when I do it live in other places - even when the teleserye is finished already -, it will be my own expression of song and I won't be acting I just be myself and I think that would be one reason why I love doing teleserye theme songs. This by the way is my 18th theme song for movies and teleseryes."
How does recording "Tayong Dalawa" differ from other theme songs he had recorded?
"I think first of all I am very comfortable while doing the song. And I love the song. I love Rey Valera's songs and for me that the biggest difference. If this would not have been chosen as theme song and I will be still given a chance to record it, I would be as excited as shooting the video for an album as I am for the teleserye."
How do you assess the new series of ABS-CBN's "Tayong Dalawa"?
"I am aware of the storyline and I am excited on how is that going to turn out. When Kim and Gerald did 'Sana Maulit Muli' (which Gary also sang the theme song) they were very new in the industry yet they were effective, of course with the help of good directors and having great project. What more now? It's a more mature role but it's very interesting to see. You can even see in the trailer that this will be an incomparable TV series. I believe in the actors, I believe in the project, I believe in the song." (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
