Monday, January 12, 2009 Angel, Piolo talk about playing cowboys
THE best thing Piolo Pascual and Angel Locsin learned from an outback life is living simple.
Piolo and Angel were acquainted to cowboys’ life during their almost three months of doing the opening salvo of Star Cinema this 2009 titled “Love Me Again.”
“Love Me Again” is a film that tells the story of a cowgirl named Arah (Angel) who goes to the Land Down Under (other term used referring to Australia) to seek greener pastures for her family, and a cowboy named Migo (Piolo) who is madly in love with Arah and would go to the ends of the earth to follow her."
When asked what lessons they had learned from a cowboy’s life, they said:
Piolo:
“We appreciate life even more. Cowboys live a simple life. They are more appreciative of nature. And they prove that people don’t need material things and techie gadgets to enjoy life. They taught us how to make life simple and remind us that the best things in life are free.”
Angel:
“We fell in love with them because they are so simple. There are some cowboys who are very rich but they could sleep in the ranch with only hats covering their faces. Very simple life, no pretensions and they are very polite.”
“I am so impressed by them because they don’t smoke but they drink hard. Yet they are still very alert although drunk.”
Angel and Piolo also shared some experiences they had during the shooting like the horseback riding training they had undergone.
Angel:
“I rode three horses here in Bukidnon. The first one was Palos, but we did not get along well because he was injured that time. He was replaced by Roam. However, he roams at night just as what his name implies. And then there was Scot, but the problem with this horse he is always in heat and loves to chase other male horses.
“In Australia we didn’t have time in acquainting ourselves with the horses. The day when the horses were introduced to us, that was the day we had to shoot the scene where Piolo and I had to do a (horse) race. We only had one hour to acquaint ourselves with the horses.
Piolo:
“And because of that Angel and I fell. There was one scene, a happy scene in Australia, where I rode at the back of Angel’s horse, the horse went wild and we both fell off the horse.
“There was also one horse that drove me away and suddenly dropped me off. Some horses are difficult to control. Like in Australia horses there are bigger and trickier to handle.”
Piolo also thanked Mikee Cojuangco, actress and known equestrian for assisting them during their training. “Mikee was so nice. Mikee was there most of the time. We were trained with different horses.”
In doing the film, Piolo and Angel also said they both got to bond with each other and know each other deeper than during their “Lobo” (ABS-CBN TV series) days.
Piolo:
“One thing I really appreciate about Angel is ‘wala siyang arte.’ She loves her work, she’s very passionate and always willing to learn. ‘Hindi siya yung nagpapa-star.’ It was easy for the most of us to get along with her because she’s very simple, she’s very warm to everyone, and she really helps in the set.
“Another thing I notice is her willingness to be excellent. She always takes it the next level, she is not okay with okay. She really inspires me.”
Angel:
“We get to bond more in this film. In ‘Lobo,’ Piolo always slept during breaks so we did not bond that much. I appreciate him more especially in Bukidnon and in Australia. He feels me more comfortable in the set.”
“Love Me Again,” directed by Rory Quintos, will be shown in theaters on January 15. It will be premiered on January 14 at SM Megamall. (Jill Beltran/Sunnex)
