Belief that the 2010 polls would push through is shared by 67 percent of Filipinos in Metro Manila, 57 percent in Luzon, 53 percent in Luzon, and 62 percent in Mindanao.
By socioeconomic classes, 65 percent of those from Class ABC said the 2010 polls are likely to be held. This is followed by 60 percent from Class D and 64 percent from Class E.
The same survey said 90 percent of Filipinos are interested in the upcoming 2010 elections while 87 percent are likely to vote in the said polls.
It also revealed 47 percent of Filipinos believe that there would be trouble if the 2010 elections do not push through.
The view is shared by 57 percent of those from Metro Manila, 49 percent from the Visayas, 47 percent from Luzon, and 38 percent from Mindanao. Fifty percent of those from Class ABC, 49 percent from Class D, and 39 percent from Class E also have the same view.
Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said Filipinos are so conscious about electing their officials that immediately after the 2007 senatorial and local elections, people were already talking about preparations for the 2010 presidential polls.
Ermita said what is important is to get the P11.9-billion supplemental budget for the automated elections passed by Congress.
He added that election automation has been part of the program of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo when she got elected in 2004.
He said the automation of the electoral procedures passed the experimental stage in the last Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm) polls.
"It is hoped if we are given budget for automation of our election process we should be able to improve our electoral process come 2010. So there will not be too much recrimination about the process and the conduct of the election process itself," he added. (JMR/Sunnex)
