DAVAO -- A man walking along the highway was killed while at least 45 others were injured when a Weena Express Bus overturned Sunday morning along Km. 85, Barangay Kinuskusan in Bansalan, Davao del Sur.

Initial investigation by the Bansalan Municipal Police Office revealed the bus with body number 7057 and plate number MVF-430 was on its way to Davao City. The bus was driven by Mama Amente Dilawangan of Cotabato City.

The bus was passing through a curve along the highway in Bansalan at around 9:40 a.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle, which fell into a 40-meter deep cliff.

Marcial Barrios Jr. of Balawan in Makilala, who was at that time walking along the highway, was hit by the rampaging bus.

All passengers were injured, including the driver, but police was able to give names of only five as of press time.

The five, who were all brought to the Viacrusis Medical Clinic in Bansalan, are Elpidio Pinol, 64, of Magpet, North Cotabato; John Paul Purisima, 23, of Villamarzo St., Kidapawan City; Jonnie Barcelona, 29, and Emperatriz Nacua, 49, both of Cotabato City; and the driver, Dilawangan.

Police said the other injured passengers were brought to the Gonzales Medical Clinic in Digos, Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital, Kidapawan Doctors Hospital and other hospitals in the area. Sun.Star Davao
