BAGUIO -- Three gunmen in camouflage military pants gunned down a 52-year-old confidential agent of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) inside his car at Burnham Park on Saturday evening, the police reported Sunday.

Report from Station 7 of the Baguio City Police Office identified the slain agent as Benjamin C. Aquino, a resident of Upper Fil-Am compound. Reports also revealed that the victim was a known contractor based in the city.

Aquino died on the spot after sustaining two gunshot wounds from a caliber .45 on his face and another one on his neck. The victim was inside his Mitsubishi Gallant when the gunmen shot him at point blank range.

Sr. Police Officer 3 Gabriel Isican, investigator-in-charge, reported they found five empty shells of caliber .45 at the scene of the crime. The victim's car window on the driver's seat was shattered and bore two bullet holes.

Witnesses told investigators the gunmen immediately fled on foot in separate directions after killing the victim.

As of Sunday, police had yet to determine the motive for the killing, although some sources who requested anonymity claimed the investigators were looking into four angles.

Police sources said Aquino had a pending case in a Baguio court but it was not immediately ascertained if the victim was the complainant or respondent.

They also claimed the killing could be job-related. Police said that Aquino might have been involved in transactions that other contractors have interest in.

Supt. Fransisco Manalo Jr., city police chief, has ordered a full investigation into the murder and directed his subordinates to go after the perpetrators. Sun.Star Baguio
