MANILA -- Share prices closed 1.89 percent higher on Wednesday in a sustained technical rally supported by growing optimism that Manila has checked the spread of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (Sars), dealers said.

The Philippine Stock Exchange composite index rose 19.78 points to 1,068.15. AFP
