Ex-CH consultant mauled by drunks
CEBU -- Retired Senior Supt. Benjamin Paclibar, former head of a Malacañang task force against crime, was bruised after two “drunk” brothers mauled him outside his store in Central Market, Lawaan III, Talisay City Sunday dawn.
The two, however, were also injured after Paclibar’s men ganged up on them after seeing blood on his face. Paclibar is a former chief of the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force (PAOCTF) 7, now defunct.
The incident happened after Paclibar allegedly accosted Richard Mandal, 26, and his brother Robert, 19, for throwing an empty liquor bottle in front of his store.
Both Paclibar and the brothers live in Barangay Lower Mojon, Talisay City.
The retired officer had just arrived from a meeting with Sen. Panfilo Lacson in Cebu City when the incident occurred around 1 a.m.
Paclibar sought the help of Sun.Star Superbalita reporter and Lawaan I Councilman Joy Tumulak, who invited Robert and Richard back to the place.
Tumulak said the two were then hauled to the police station after Paclibar identified them as the ones who punched him.
The brothers, however, were released at 3 a.m. yesterday because the former anti-crime chief did not show up at the station to stand as the arresting officer.
In a telephone interview, Paclibar said what happened was a small matter.
Aside from a few aches and a gash on his right eyebrow, Paclibar said he was fine.
SPO4 Vicente Abellare, quoting a portion of the police blotter, said SPO1 Arturo Andales, one of the responding policemen, was also injured when the police team was about to bring the brothers to the station.
He said Paclibar’s wife allegedly threw a beer bottle at the moving patrol multicab, causing broken glass shards to wound Andales in the right index finger.
Sources said that even when the two brothers were already at the back of the multicab, Paclibar still punched them.
Aside from being PAOCTF chief in his days in the force, Paclibar was among those instrumental in installing Tomas Osmeña as Cebu City mayor by campaigning for him in the mountain barangays.
He again caught media attention after he withdrew his support for Osmeña, who Paclibar said failed to fulfill his promises to the mountain folks. RHM of Sun.Star Cebu
