Cops eye drug syndicate in 4 men's slay By Rex C. Otero
DAVAO -- A drug syndicate could be responsible for the killing of four young men and the wounding of two others Saturday in Km. 11, Sasa, Davao City.
This is the angle being looked into by police investigators.
The victims, all fishers, were identified as Atiar Sahiri, alias Albert, 25; Nasser Abbas alias Nash, 26; Hussein Abbas alias Saddam, 26, and Christian Lupasi, 18, all residents of Km. 12, Sasa.
Lupasi died while being treated at the Davao Medical Center.
Still undergoing treatment are Gerald Asi, 19, a resident of Muslim Village, Ilang, Tibungco and Mary Mae Gumup-as, a 14-year-old ambulant vendor who was wounded by a stray bullet in the right foot.
PO3 Alfredo Heliane, an investigator from the Sasa police station, told Sun.Star the victims were believed involved in the illegal drugs trade under their alleged leader, one Abdul Hasan of St. John, Km 12, Sasa.
Heliane said Hasan has a pending arrest warrant for murder for reportedly killing a resident of Maniki in Kapalong, Davao del Norte. A person who reportedly visited Hasan's house several months ago was later found dead.
"Daghang mga instances or mga panghitabo nga atong ma-trace kay sila ra man gud ning grupoha. Mora'g nag-unay-unay na ni sila pareha atong nakit-ang patay didto sa balay ni Hasan," Heliane said. (There are several cases that point to them. It seems that they themselves are killing each other like the dead man found in Hasan's house.)
Heliane said the gang reportedly executed other members of the group. Another gang member, Dodong Breaker, was also shot dead in Sasa a few months ago.
"Daghan nang kauban nila ilang gipatay, naay taga-Manila nga gipusil sa Km. 13, naa pay laing isa hasta pud tong si Dodong Breaker, ila man tong kauban," the police investigator said. (There were other gang members who were killed, one was from Manila who was shot at Km. 13, and there was another one shot aside from Dodong Breaker.)
Heliane said he is still preparing the special report with all the details of the incident connected with the killing of the four last Saturday.
Sahiri, Nasser, Hussein, Lupasi, Gerald Asi and two others identified as Jessie Pren Pelenio and Junil Vergara were taken into custody by the Sasa police around 12:30 a.m. Saturday.
The seven were detained at the Awad Brigade, Panacan for acting suspicious. At around 2 p.m. on Saturday, the seven were released and boarded a jeepney driven by a certain Alfredo Moralde bound for Panacan.
Upon reaching Maribeth Store in Km.11, Sasa, three armed men boarded the jeepney and started shooting the passengers and fled the area.
The police recovered 15 empty shells and two slugs of a .45 caliber pistol and two empty shells of a .38 revolver. The police are investigating the incident. Sun.Star Davao |
