Cops to bring in wanted ex-VM, dead or alive

BAGUIO -- Police in Kalinga province said they have a "standing directive" to arrest "dead or alive" fugitive ex-vice mayor Corey Dickpus, reportedly the number one most wanted person in the Cordillera region.

Senior Supt. Paul Mascariņas, Kalinga Provincial Police Office chief, said this in reaction to reports that Dickpus does not plan to surrender even as top police and local officials are negotiating for his surrender.

The government has put up a P1 million reward for Dickpus, dead or alive.

Mascariņas said in an interview Sunday that three policemen have been tasked to conduct extensive monitoring and surveillance on Dickpus, said to be still in hiding in Kalinga.

"We received reliable information that Dickpus is still in Kalinga although some top police officials claim he is already out of the province," Mascarinas added.

But he brushed off the statement of Kalinga Gov. Macario Duguiang that some concerned policemen are not in favor of a peaceful surrender for Dickpus because of the P1 million reward.

Duguiang, together with top police officers, are negotiating for the peaceful surrender of Dickpus.

Mayor Johnny Dickpus of Lubuagan, Kalinga, the older brother of the wanted politician, told reporters his brother has no plans of surrendering, as he is reportedly afraid he will be harmed.

Dickpus abandoned his post and went into hiding after the Kalinga police filed multiple murder charges against him, allegedly for masterminding the bloody attack against members of the Special Action Forces resulting in the death of three policemen, including an officer, late last year.

Dickpus became the top most wanted person in the region after he reportedly ordered the murder of six Pangasinan traders in 1994. Sun.Star Baguio
