2 more added to Davao 'death squad' victims
By Gwen Posadas

DAVAO -- A suspected drug pusher and a suspected thief are the latest addition to the growing number of victims of summary executions in Davao City that started June 16.

The death toll from killings carried out by motorcycle-riding hit men is now 16.

The gunmen are believed to be members of the dreaded Davao Death Squad (DDS), a shadowy vigilante group whose objective is allegedly to make Davao City crime-free.

A gunman intercepted three men at Aguho Street in Juna Subdivision, Matina at around 8 p.m. Tuesday after they snatched the bag of a lady customer of Apung Kula Ihaw-ihaw along Quimpo Boulevard.

Shot dead was one Raymund Dangcolas, 19, of Purok 14, Barangay 76-A in Bucana.

He was hit in his shoulders, the bullet piercing his chest.

His two companions, Earl Vincent Te, 20, and Richard Timbal, 19, of SIR Phase 2 in New Matina were arrested by responding policemen and are now detained at the Talomo Police Precinct.

Not a snatcher

Te, however, said Dangcolas was not a snatcher.

He said that he was the one who planned the crime and Dangcolas had nothing to do with it.

Also added to the growing list of summary executions was one alleged pimp who was also said to be a suspected thief and drug pusher.

Rene Mata, alias Ok-ok, 36, a resident of 39-A Sto. Niņo Gotamco in Barangay Leon Garcia in Agdao, was shot dead by gunmen on a motorcycle at around 11:40 p.m. at the corner of San Pedro and Legaspi Streets.

Mata was leaning on a friend's motorcycle in this street corner noted for being a pick-up area for sexual favors when shot dead.

SPO1 Jay Reuben Plaza of San Pedro Police Precinct said the motorcycle-riding gunmen approached from behind and one of them shot Mata twice before speeding off.

Like a cockroach

"Gianggaan na'g Ok-ok kay mora nag Ok-ok mokamang kay ukoyon ang mga nag-sex ug panguhaon ang mga pantalon sa mga kustomer. Mao nang human og sex, mga kustomer moreklamo kay wa nay pantalon, wa nay pitaka," Plaza said.

(He was nicknamed Cockroach because he was like a cockroach. He would creep in while a customer is having sex with one of his wards and steal the customer's pants. After the act, the customer will find out that he not only lost his pants but also the wallet usually placed inside one of the pockets.)

A certain Boyet told police authorities he saw the victim sold shabu to prostituted women frequenting the street corner.

Different documents that didn't belong to him and seven razor blades were found in Mata's wallet.

Mata's cadaver was brought to the Angel Funeral Parlor after the incident. Sun.Star Davao
