Gov’t may raise as much as US$500M through Islamic bond issue (4:22 pm)

MANILA -- The government is considering raising between US$200 million and US$500 million through the issuance of Islamic bonds in the Middle East this year, Finance Sec. Jose Isidro Camacho said Wednesday.

Camacho said a team that recently returned from the Middle East "gave me favorable feedback" over the bond issue.

"If we want, we can raise bonds with a three to five year maturity," Camacho said. AFP
