Assassins in city strike anew, kill 2 more By Raquel C. Bagnol & Rex C. Otero
DAVAO -- Armed men on motorcycles struck anew Monday night, killing two of three men shot in separate incidents.
First to fall was Noel Adolfo, 22, a balut vendor, who hailed from Zamboanga del Norte before becoming a resident of Phase 1, SIR, New Matina in Davao City.
Adolfo had reportedly just finished eating snacks at Rose Eatery when an unidentified armed man shot him on the head at around 10:25 p.m. Monday.
Five minutes after Adolfo was killed, another man was shot at the "trisiboat" terminal still at SIR Phase 1. The victim who was hit in the leg was identified as Jay-Ar Chu, 18, of Pogi St. SIR, New Matina. He survived the attempt on his life.
Ruel Lanaban, 27, of Bersare Village, Bago Aplaya, was not so lucky. Gunmen on motorcycles shot him dead 30 minutes after the second incident.
The suspects in Adolfo's slay fled on board a motorcycle.
Neighbors rushed Adolfo to the Davao Doctors Hospital but he died while he was being treated. Police recovered a slug from a caliber .45 from the scene of the incident.
Adolfo was one of the suspects named in the robbing and slaying of a certain Rubilyn Ferarin Barsaman, 25, inside her office at the Relic Centennial Services Inc. in SIR Phase 2 on September 5.
Rubilyn, wife of PO2 Romeo Barsaman of the Regional Mobile Group, succumbed to 10 stab wounds.
But initial investigation conducted by PO3 Decebelindo Didal showed Adolfo was not involved in Rubilyn's death.
He added that they are still checking if Adolfo was involved in the illegal drug trade like the rest of the victims killed in the city.
In the second incident, three men emerged and shot one of the victim's companions but missed and hit him instead.
Chu was taken to the Davao Medical Center where he is undergoing treatment.
Police investigation showed the gunmen used a caliber .45 caliber pistol.
Didal said the armed men were after one of Chu's friends but got him instead.
He added that in the third incident, a man approached Lanaban and shot him twice in the head. Lanaban was drinking with Royland and some of his friends at Lower Rapnaga Store Inc. in Lower Rapnaga when the shooting happened.
The suspect immediately fled with four men who were waiting on two DT motorcycles without plate numbers.
Two empty shells of a.45 caliber pistol were recovered from the scene and are now under the custody of the Scene of the Crime Operations group.
Police have yet to identify the suspects in the killings and their motives. Sun.Star Davao |
