Kris accuses Joey M. of poking gun at her
MANILA---For once, Kris Aquino wasn't game.
The popular television host filed a complaint Tuesday in Camp Crame against her rumored boyfriend, Parañaque Mayor Joey Marquez, for allegedly poking a 9mm gun at her.
Lawyer Raymund Fortun refused to give details about Aquino's complaint, but told ABS-CBN there was no truth to rumors that her bruises were self-inflicted.
"She's very distraught," said Fortun, who went to Camp Crame with his client's brother, Tarlac Rep. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay and lawyer Rene Saguisag. Saguisag and Binay are good friends of the Aquino family.
Aquino family spokesperson Deedee Siytangco said the family, who has openly opposed the relationship, was "behind the decision of Kris."
Aquino and Marquez reportedly had a row at The Fort in Makati Monday night, over a text message Marquez received from a female acquaintance.
In a separate interview over radio station dzBB and television news program "Frontpage," Marquez denied Aquino's allegation.
"I have not done anything wrong. I have not hurt anyone," said Marquez.
"We were together when the text message was sent to me. It was from a woman whose business permit I had denied," the former actor also added.
"She became jealous and started talking. I wanted to go out of the room so that people could not see how she was quarrelling with me, but she stopped me," said Marquez.
The mayor's on-and-off relationship with Aquino has been rocked by controversy since it reportedly began 18 months ago. Marquez is awaiting the annulment of his marriage to actress Alma Moreno.
"Why would I point a gun? I don't even know how," Marquez said.
Marquez said he was willing to go to the police headquarters at Camp Crame in Quezon City if summoned, and appealed to Aquino, youngest daughter of former president Corazon Aquino, to tell the truth.
When asked whether this incident would end his relationship with Aquino, Marquez was evasive. "All I know was that all these started with a simple text message and that things got out of hand," he said.
He said he still loved Aquino but was willing to face any charges.
"Nagkar'on lang po kami ng konting tampuhan at selosan. Dahil sa babae, alam n'yo naman po ang babae malakas ang boses, pinakinggan ko lang. At pagkatapos ay umalis," he said. (We had a spat. You know how women can get. I just listened as she raised her voice. And then I left.)
Television footage showed Kris emerging from her meeting with police authorities, with the cameras focused on the bruises on her arms and neck.
Congressman Aquino said his youngest sister was shaken and wept when she reported the incident to her family. She also went to the Makati Medical Center and had herself examined for her injuries.
Saguisag, who also served in the Aquino cabinet, went as far as describing the incident as "emotional terrorism."
Fortun said the Aquino family was still evaluating whether to file a case against Marquez.
Kris, the highly paid host of "Game Ka Na Ba?", last week denied rumors she had bought Marquez a Porsche as a gift.
