Kris readies case against Joey for gun-poking By Miko Santos
MANILA -- Controversial television host and movie actress Kris Aquino is preparing to file charges in court against her ex-lover, Parañaque Mayor Joey Marquez, for allegedly poking a gun at her during a quarrel at his plush condominium in Makati City.
Kris Aquino's lawyer Raymund Fortun said his client would be filing the suit before the Makati City Prosecutor's Office on Monday and was scheduled to meet with her legal team Friday afternoon for the drafting of her affidavit.
President Arroyo refused to comment Friday on the Kris-Marquez controversy, saying it has no national importance.
According to Fortun, Kris and the other members of the Aquino family may still cancel the planned suit but only if Marquez complies with their minimum demand for him to say three sentences in public.
Fortun said Kris relayed this demand to Marquez when he called her up on her cellular phone but he did not seem amenable to the idea.
The game show host's lawyer did not say, though, what these three sentences that Marquez was supposed to say in public, explaining it is better that any information about the demands of the Aquinos will come from the Parañaque mayor himself.
Also on Friday, Kris's mother, former president Corazon "Cory" Aquino, apologized for saying that Marquez should be grateful that her husband Sen. Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino is dead or the mayor would be in for it.
"My emotions got the better of me that night, after listening to Kris's revelations on TV," Cory read from a statement, referring to her daughter's tell-all confession that there was a point in the relationship that she wanted to die, she set her bed on fire, and she contracted a sexually transmitted disease from Marquez.
The former president is the wife of martyred Senator Aquino, who was assassinated in 1983. The slaying led to the overthrow of late strongman Ferdinand Marcos and the taking over of Cory as president in 1986.
"The past few days I have been praying not only for Kris but also for Joey that they will be both enlightened," Cory said.
The former president had made no secret of her disapproval of her daughter's relationship with Marquez, whose marriage to movie actress Alma Moreno has yet to be annulled.
Marquez could also face dismissal from service if Kris would file an administrative case against him, said Interior Secretary Joey Lina earlier on Thursday.
Arroyo, in an interview with GMA-7's "Unang Hirit" program in New York, said she is up to date on the issue because she is always given a summary of news items.
However, efforts of reporters who tagged along with her to New York to get her to comment on the Kris-Marquez feud proved futile.
"Huwag ngayon (Not today)," she said, when asked about the issue after she met with United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan.
On Tuesday, a bruised and puffy-eyed Kris Aquino filed an incident report before the Police Anti-Crime Emergency Response (Pacer) team in Camp Crame claiming Marquez beat her up and pointed a gun at her during a quarrel in his condominium in Makati City.
Marquez has denied the allegations and expressed hope of reaching an amicable settlement with his lover of a year and a half.
