Police arrest US citizen facing sex charges (4:15 p.m.)
MANILA -- A US citizen facing sexual assault charges has been arrested after he fled to the Philippines, the immigration bureau said Monday.
Noel Bernardo Canlas, 47, was arrested at the home of his Filipino father in Bacoor town south of Manila on Friday, more than 30 months after he fled US justice, immigration chief Andrea Domingo said in a statement.
Canlas would be deported within the week to stand trial in a Las Vegas, Nevada court for sexual assault against a 14-year-old girl, Domingo added. (AFP) |
