Three killed, five wounded in clash between rival bets (2:45 p.m.)
MANILA -- Three people were killed and five wounded when armed supporters of rival election candidates clashed south of Manila, police said Wednesday.
The fatalities brought the total death toll from election-related violence to at least 86 five days before the country votes in presidential, Senate and local polls.
Fighting broke out between followers of Melencio Sagun, mayor of Trece Martirez City, and followers of rival Benigno Colorado on Tuesday while the mayor was holding a rally, a police report said.
One of Colorado's bodyguards, a district official and an unidentified man were killed. Two village chieftains and three other people were wounded. (AFP) |
