8 killed in car accident in southern Philippines (5:30 p.m.)

CAGAYAN DE ORO -- Eight people, including four children, were killed Saturday when the car they were travelling in slammed into the side of a bridge in the southern Philippines, police said.

The vehicle, carrying two families, swerved for unknown reasons and struck the side of the bridge before dawn near the town of Santiago in Mindanao island, a police report said.

Two other family members were injured. AFP
